For visitors to the region, Marlborough is an exciting vacation destination that provides an exhilarating and varied range of attractions and activities. From enjoying a glass of our world-famous Sauvignon Blanc at one the region's numerous wineries to swimming with dolphins in the Marlborough Sounds, the region offers a multitude of recreational delights.

If you enjoy kayaking or scenic boat tours, visits to formal gardens or hiking through native bush, Marlborough is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the finer things in life. For the eco-tourist and nature-lover, the region provides numerous opportunities to see some of our wildlife close up.

Marlborough's diversity is what gives the region its unique identity. Kaikoura's majestic, snow-capped peaks that tower above the township is one of New Zealand's scenic wonders; the Marlborough Sound's bush covered hills and tranquil bays and coves await discovery; and the Wairau Plain and Awatere Valley is a wine lover's paradise.

The region also has a rich and colourful history. Maori still have a strong and vital presence in the area and evidence of Marlborough's colonial past can still be found in many of the older buildings in Kaikoura, Havelock and Picton. Ship Cove in Queen Charlotte Sound has a monument commemorating Captain James Cook's exploration of the area in the late 1700's and Kaikoura's historically significant Fyffe House is a memorial to the region's whaling history.

We hope that you'll join us in our sunny province where we will help you discover Marlborough and make it your favourite destination!
